St. Cronan’s Events Calendar

Ongoing

Winter Outreach Ministry:  Help this ministry by bringing blankets (new/gently used) to leave in the back of church.  About 30 - 40 people are willing/available to go out on very cold nights to find the homeless and to encourage them to come into shelters.  Many are unwilling (for really sad reasons), and so we’d like to assure that they have a little extra to shield them from the relentless/bitter cold.  See Joe Moramarco or email at nuthouse44@juno.com if you’d like to get involved in this ministry.

Greeters at Mass: Greeters needed, on a rotating basis, at all Masses to welcome newcomers and “regulars”.  Arrive 15 minutes early to greet arrivals, and to invite and guide interested newcomers over to coffee/donuts after the 10 am liturgy, and give them the St. Cronan’s brochure.  If interested, sign up on the “Greeter Schedule” loca-ted in the “Lector” binder hanging on the church’s back wall.

Volunteers Needed in many St. Cronan ministries.  Please complete the form on tables in church’s back if you are interested in volunteering as a lector, Eucharistic minister, greeter, liturgy committee, sacristan backup, coffee & donuts (hospitality) helper, or church decorator (liturgical seasons).  Include your name, phone, e-mail address and pick which mass (5 pm, 8 am, 10 am).  Place it in the golden clasp envelope for Peggy Poniewaz.

Cronan Chronicle Contributors: You are invited to be a contributor to our parish newsletter, the St. Cronan Chronicle.  Work is commencing on our summer issue and we welcome your reflections, updates about parish activities, interviews with new parishioners, "amazing graces," pictures, story ideas or book/movie/music reviews.  Please submit items to Madonna Kuciejczyk-Kernan at tmkkernan@earthlink.net and CC to Kathleen Herring at kwherring@sbcglobal.net.  Please put the words St. Cronan Chronicle in the subject area.

Parish Pay:  St. Cronan realizes that giving is an important part of your life, but writing 52+ checks a year might not be your preferred method of giving.  Automatic giving through parishpay.com can make giving much easier.  Questions?  Call the parish office or check their website at www.parishpay.com.

Prayer Leaders needed for Children's Liturgy: You do not need to be a teacher, theologian, preacher or even a parent, but a member of our faith community willing to tell a story of God's love and lead the children in prayer during 10 am liturgy of the word.  Support materials include story packets and a tape with songs.  Contact Madonna at tmkkernan@earthllink.net or 963-7834 if you are willing to lead at least once this summer.

Nov 29: Health Cabinet Meeting after the 10 a.m. mass in Parish Center conference room.

Sat (10 - 11:30 am): RCIA, in the parish center conference room.  We need sponsors who would like to share this faith journey and be a prayer partner with our new friends.  If you’re interested in helping in any way, call Becky Schwantes at the parish office, 314-256-9350.

Amaryllis Bulbs: Sold by the St. Louis Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA).  HDSA is offering individual 'Amaryllis Bulb Kits' already in a gift box for only $10.  These make excellent Thanksgiving or Christmas gifts for teachers, office staff, family and friends.  Proceeds support the programs that help families living with HD in the St. Louis area.  Contact Kathy Hunn 314-962-0383 to place an order.

Feb. 7 (after 10 am mass): St. Cronan’s St. Vincent DePaul Meeting will be held this Sunday in the Parish Center.

Nov 7 (8:15 - 11 am): SVDP Giveaway of Clothing and Housewares.  Help needed for setup on Nov 6th from 5 - 8 pm and on the morning of the 7th.  Call Dorthoy Lucey at 803-1858 for setup help and/or volunteering.

Faith Formation, Children's Liturgy, Children and Youth Census Sign-Up: Our children need prayer leaders for children's liturgy.  You do not need to be a teacher, theologian, preacher or parent but members of our faith community who will tell a story of God's love and lead the children in prayer during 10 am liturgy of the word.  Packets with the story, a tape with songs, and other support materials are provided.  Contact Madonna at 963-7834 or tmkkernan@earthllink.net if you are willing to lead.

Just Faith consists of eleven parish adults, gathering weekly to grow in our relationship with God.  We educate and expose ourselves to various social justice issues through readings, video and activities.  To connect our experience with all of you, we’ll include in future bulletins a brief passage (click here) from one of our readings and a question to think about and discuss.  We hope you enjoy them!

Operation Rice Bowl:  The Risen Christ gives all people a new hope - truly a time for rejoicing.  Our efforts with Operation Rice Bowl have also given hope and new chances to many of our sisters and brothers throughout the world.  Even though our Lenten journey is over, our solidarity with the poor needs to continue all year long.

Project COPE (Congregation & Offender Partnership Enterprise), a not-for-profit, faith-based organization that provides support to recently released ex-offenders, needs 3 - 5 new members for our St. Cronan team to provide a broad spectrum of expertise to assist our partner.  Those who’ve spent significant time in prison need many differ-ent kinds of support to make a successful transition to the community.  If interested, or if you have questions, con-tact Marcy Soda at (msoda@swbell.net, 314-727-2440).

Habitat Appeal 2010: Saint Cronan’s has been a part of Habitat St. Louis City/County Catholic Group since 2005, contributing between $4000 - $5000 annually and building 6 homes.  This year’s home is being built for Monique Ward & family at 1917 Sullivan in the Old N. St. Louis Neighborhood.  We have used direct appeals, raffles, and dinners to raise funds.  This year the Parish is committed to raising $2500.  If we could obtain 100 shares of $25 we would reach our goal.  Place contributions in the Collection box as checks made out to St.  Cronan Parish and marked for the “Habitat Build 2010”.  Thank you for your support.         --Dominic Soda

Lectors/Eucharistic Ministers:  Peggy Poniewaz, who coordinates the scheduling for Lectors/Eucharistic Minis-ters, is updating their list.  She has completed a schedule through the summer, but please contact her if: (1) You are currently listed as a Lector/E.M. at the 10 am liturgy and Do NOT wish to remain on the list; or (2) You ARE able to assist as either Lector/E.M. at the 10 am liturgy, and could be added to the summer list.  Also helpful would be dates which include summer travel plans resulting in your inability to assist on a particular weekend.

Dream Group Invitation: St. Cronan’s has had a Dream Group for over a year that meets on each month’s 3rd  Monday at 5 - 6:30 pm to discuss our dreams.  We are inviting you to join us.  We have access to dream resources to help us remember and understand our dreams and we support one another in discovering how our dreams speak to us and offer us guidance for our lives.   We believe that dreams lead us to health and wholeness, individually and as a community.  We work with our “shadow side” which we discover in our dreams, enabling us to become more aware of God’s action in our lives and to respond to God and others in a more peaceful and just way.  For questions and more information, call or email Marge O’Gorman, FSM, 477-2892, mogorman@fsmonline.org.

Jul 21 (3 pm): The Catholic Employment Network meets every other Wednesday at Catholic Charities Midtown Center.  If you are between jobs and looking for information, job leads and networking opportunities, this may be for you.  For more information, call 314-534-1180.

St. Louis Metro Events Calendar

Feb 1 (7 - 7:30 pm): Candlelight Vigil for Peace. A time to remember the Iraq war’s human toll and an on-going place for its opponents to make their opposition visible.  This vigil is a time of silence, an open mike for sharing perspectives and readings, music and announcements of upcoming events.  People of all faiths and persuasions are welcome.  Sponsored by the St. Louis Instead of War Coalition and the Catholic Action Network for Social Justice (314-721-2977 or 314-725-5303).  At St. Francis Xavier (College) Church, Grand & Lindell.

Need a Part Time Gardener? Project COPE can provide a hard-working gardener/landscaper/general outdoor yardman this summer for 20 hours at $7.50/hr.  COPE has received a grant from the Dept. of Corrections for summer employment of ex-offenders who are Project COPE clients.  Arrange for the workman to come at any convenient time this summer, for a total of 20 hours.  If interested, call COPE at 314-389-4804.  For questions, call Marcy Soda at 314-727-2440.

Catholic Radio, AM 1460 KHOJ: Hear The Journey Home, one of many programs of conversion, inspiration and hope.  Plus, shows like Catholic Answers Live, Life on the Rock and Reasons for Faith, and the daily Holy Mass, the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.  For a program schedule and a free CD, call 314-752-7000 or toll-free 1-877-305-1234.

Dec. 7 (7 - 8 pm): Vigil for Survival of the Earth Community.  Light a candle of hope at an interfaith candle-light prayer at College Church to coincide with the Global Climate Summit in Copenhagen.  Stand in solemn solidarity with world citizens whose very survival is threatened by the climate crisis.  Bring a candle (in contain-er) for yourself and one for your neighbor.  Please carpool or take public transportation, if possible.  Also, visit www.350.org for more information.

Apr 17 (11 am): Women Led Prayer - please join us for liturgy at CTSA, 1077 S. Newstead.  All are welcome.  Please contact CAN (can@catholicactionnetwork.org or 314-721-2977) if you are interested in helping plan prayer, preach or preside.

Volunteers Needed for Altar Linens: In Feb 2009, three of us volunteered to take home the communion cloths (pacificators) each week to wash the red wine stains out, along with sacristy towels, corporals, and any waxed table coverings.  After 15 months, it has become more difficult for us to perform this service.  Our schedule has us continuing through June.  After that, others will need to come forward to take over the laundering of these sacra-mental linens.  Please let either Cathy Hartrich (hartrich@nerinxhs.org ) or Pat Carter (p-a@stcronan.org) know if you’re interested.

Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA):  “Do This in Memory of Me”  Your participation puts you in solidarity with those who suffer need of any kind … those to who the Lord has promised comfort, mercy, gentleness, purity of heart, freedom from persecution and peace in the kingdom of heaven.  The Appeal is a point in time each year when the Catholic community joins together to give witness to one fact: “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (Jn. 13:35).  If you have not received your pledge card already and are planning to contribute, please contact the parish office (314) 256-9350.  St. Cronan’s 2010 goal is $10,201.

We must pray literally without ceasing,

I mean that prayer of the heart

which is independent of time and place,

which is rather a habit of lifting up the heart to God.
