Beatitudes/Sermon on the Mount

5th Grade Faith Formation

The children experientially explore the meaning of each beatitude and the sermon on the mount, with an extended emphasis on the beatitude “Blessed are the peacemakers.”

They experience ways to live as "beatitude people" today.

Richard Rohr comments in Jesus’ Plan for a New World that the Sermon on the Mount is considered a blueprint of the Christian lifestyle, but must be understood within the historical context of Jesus’ time to fully understand its revolutionary nature.  The children are guided in understanding this historical context and are encouraged in being co-creators with the Holy Mystery of God’s reign in their lives today.
